In my family tree my great grandfather Joseph Snaith (b 1858 ) married his cousin Jane Winship Snaith (b 1860). Jane was the daughter of William Allen Snaith (b1832) and Hannah Huntley Winship (b1836).

Hannah’s parents were Joseph Winship and Jane Huntley. They were married at Washington in 1814/15. Joseph, a pitman - overman living at Low Moorsley in 1841 census give his palce of birth as Newburn, Northumberland. From age given in census date of birth circa 1796.

Only Joseph I have found in Newburn is one son of John Winship and Elizabeth Armstrong. Date of birth 20th May 1806! This would mean a marriage at age of 9, is this possible.

My name is Brian Snaith and I have been researching the Family name for over twenty years. This is mainly on the Snaith family who lived in and around Barnard Castle from pre 16th century up to early 19th century.  After the demise of the Carpet weaving industry most of the family moved in the Industrially developing area of Gateshead.
