Amelia Wood (nee Aylott)

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

The lady in the picture is Amelia Aylott. She was born about 1868 and spent a lot of her time in and out Edmonton workhouse. In 1886 she settled down with Thomas Wood and they had about 12 children, (possibly 16 but i can only find 12). I am trying to find any descendants her childrens names were:

Elizabeth Florence (Known as and married as Florence Elizabeth) 1883

Emma Maria 1886

Thomas Joseph 1888

Edith Amelia 1889

Alfred Henry 1891

Louisa Sarah 1893 - 1926

George Joseph Charles 1896 (died 1900)

Frederick William 1898

Norah Beatrice 1900

Beatrice Violet 1903

Eva May 1904 (possibley known as Evelyn)

Liilian Rose 1909 - 1990 (my grandmother).

I have information on most of the above children eg who they married and whether they had any children but would love to contact anyone who can tell me more. They all lived around the Woolwich/plumstead area. Thomas sr died 1920 and Amelia died 1939, i think both are buried in Plumstead cemetery.

Louie Elizabeth Butler

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Louie Elizabeth Butler was born 3rd October 1903. Her parents were Alice Butler (neeDulieu) and Abraham Butler, both of whom died in 1918. She married in July 1924 to a William Carey, then seems to have disappeared.

The family story says that she went to Ireland after she married and died there, she would have been in her 20’s.

I only know that William Carey was a Stud Groom and his father a Horse Doctor. The story is that William was the brother of a famous jockey, this i have not been able to prove , yet!

I have had a search carried out for a death certificate but with no success, anyone got ant ideas?

The picture was taken when Louie was about 14 years old.

In need of help!

Monday, May 28th, 2007

I have been tracing my family tree for a long time and i keep hitting brick walls, as i would think most people do!

One that i would like to try and undo is “What happened to Robert Butler”!

Robert Butler was born in December 1910 to Alice and Abraham Butler who at that time were living in Rippleson Road in Plumstead. By 1918 both parents had died leaving Robert and his two brothers and one sister without parents.

Louie (1903-1927?) went and lived with Alice’s sister Lucy as did Sidney(1907-1981) my grandfather. Leonard(1909-1974) went to a boys home of which i have copies of all his records. But what happened to Robert. My Grandfather never mentioned him, my father and his brother did not know he exsisted, he seems to have disappeared. Any suggestions are most welcome. Have tried childrens homes, hospitals am now working through school records to try and find out what happened to him in 1918.

His Grand Daughter contacted me in 2005 and all she could tell me was he married Doris in 1935 they had one daughter, Robert left before she was 10 only to return in 1954 for a divorce, he was then talking of remarrying and/or going to Australia.

Abraham Butler

My great grandfather Abraham Butler (1881-1918) is in the second row first on the left, he was killed in action on 11 May 1918. The picture was taken in 1916 and posted to his brother Charles. I would be interested in the names of any other people in the photo and also why some men have a white band on their left shoulder.
