I have not been able to find any records relating to his war service, and therefore, he may have been in the forces before war broke out. I know that he was in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment when he was KIA on 27 August 1917, during the battle of Passchendaele, (3rd Ypres). He has no none grave and is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing.

These are my maternal grandparents, William Arthur Castle & Florence Jane Sims, this photo would be circa 1919, you can see that William is still in his uniform, having fought in the Great War. I have a suspicion that he was in the Royal Engineers, but haven’t been able, as yet to find any proof. The young boy with them is their first born, also William, who was born in the summer of 1914.
