Tena koutou katoa,

For those who don’t know…….this is the Maori language.  It is the indigenous language of the original people from New Zealand.  They were the first arrivals to this land and had established a society there many years before the arrival of the others.  Who came and transformed what they believed to be a primitive people.

I am one of the Maori people and we have preserved our genealogy in songs and chants through thousands of years.  We believe this genealogy to be sacred and that it takes us back to the gods that created this world.

Our people came from across the oceans on waka with their families.  So were searching for new lands because of trouble where they came from.  Some were adventurers just following the stars over vast distances.  Fishing their way to great adventures, legends and myths.  Making the stories told around campfires.  Singing the chants of our forebearers genealogies that protected them from storms and fiery challenges.  These were the warrior people determined to make a new life and face whatever nature and the gods threw them
