About MyHeritageDNA Ancient Origins

New from MyHeritageDNA (early 2025), Ancient Origins will allow you to gain insights to your DNA and origins 10,000 years ago.

To find your MyHeritageDNA Ancient Origins, go to MyHeritage.com/DNA and select 'Ancient Origins' from the drop-down menu. Your Ancient Origins report will then be generated and you will shortly be sent an email with a link to view your Ancient Origins report.

Explore 50 ancient populations from the past 10,000 years

The timeframe covers the past 10,000 years and categorises the population into 50 ancient populations.

View your Ancient Origins Breakdown, to see your ancient population categories at 4 points in the past: Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman era and Middle Ages.

'When viewing your results, the higher the percentage, the more closely your DNA resembles the genetic markers from each group,' states the MyHeritage.com website.

As well as a percentage - indicating your genetic make up at any of these four era points mentioned above, you will also receive a Genetic Fit. The genetic fit is a score that indicates how closely your DNA matches an ancient population. A lower score means a closer match. The genetic fit score is shown, in green, on the left-hand side of your Ancient Origins Breakdown window, above the percentages columns.

It's also possible to see how much of your DNA comes from hunter-gatherer and early farmer populations. To learn about your inheritance, see Hunter-Gatherer and Farmer Breakdown.
