Professor Deborah Sugg Ryan investigates the unique era of house history that is interwar building boom and reflects on the ideals regarding homes at the time
The interwar years represent a seismic change in the era of house history, where we begin to turn from a nation of predominantly tenants to a nation increasingly of home owners. Between the wars the house building boom saw 4 million homes erected, of which 1 million were social housing and across the board expectations of living standards rose. Learn about this unique era of house history, on the cusp of living memory, and one that is likely to have ties to so many of our families' histories.
