Extracting details from historic newspaper collections from the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, MyHeritage has created a collection of 11.6 billion newly available details
‘This massive addition includes names, dates, places, relationships, and life events extracted from obituaries, wedding announcements, and other articles,’ states Daniel Horowitz, Genealogy Expert, MyHeritage.
Superfast AI indexing project
The speed of the Names and Stories Project from MyHeritage is due to the fact that the details have been extracted from the historic newspaper collections on OldNews.com using AI technology, turning the digitised newspaper collections into a searchable database.
MyHeritage users will also be receiving record match notifications, for items that correlate with details in their MyHeritage family tree.
Of the 11.6 billion details, 44,766,610 are from the digitised UK newspapers on OldNews.com, while for Australia alone there are approaching 2 billion details.
While you may search within a location (eg Australia or UK) it is not possible, presently, to view a list of the newspaper titles in the collection, nor the date span each covers.
