Exploring the genealogical treasures in the parish chest
Exploring the genealogical treasures in the parish chest
Alec Tritton will be speaking on ‘”Of This Parish”: Using church and parish records’ at Family Tree Live
Introducing Alec Tritton’s talk:
The Society of Genealogists (SoG) collects records of the registers of the Church of England and the papers of the vestry, constables and other officials who administered the parish. This talk will look at church and parish records in the SoG library and elsewhere and demonstrate how to use them to further your family history research.
Spanning five centuries of history, the parish records can enable you to take your family lines back, from recent generations, to before the reign of King Henry VIII.
Not only will you be able to glean information about individuals and families, the wider parish records will enable to you to gain a clearer view of the communities in which your ancestors once lived.
This talk is for you if you wish to learn more about the full range of records kept by thousands of parishes, to take your research back to Tudor times, and learn about individual family members and the wider community.
Suitable for many levels of family history researcher, beginner to intermediate.
