- Browse the listings and see which topics appeal.
Workshop and lecture bookings are only valid with a Family Tree Live day ticket. To book your day tickets, click here.
Advance tickets to Family Tree Live cost:
£12 per person per day
£10 for Family Tree subscribers per day
£14 on the door per day
Children 16 and under free (with free 'Kids Pack').

The lecture programme is completely different on each day of Family Tree Live, Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April 2019. The workshop programme is similar, but with some variations, so it’s worth viewing both days before choosing your workshops.

- The FamilyTreeDNA Hub lecture theatre will be showcasing subjects from the world of DNA and the many ways in which it ties into family history investigations
Announcing the lectures for Family Tree Live 2019
Come along, take a seat and make new discoveries about family history at our brand new two-day event.
The countdown is on until the doors will be opening at the first-ever Family Tree Live 2019 at Alexandra Palace and we’re delighted to be announcing the speakers.
Many of the speakers will be familiar names to you, not only due to their being popular lecturers at genealogy events for many years, but also because their articles and stories are enjoyed by thousands of readers of Family Tree magazine. Meanwhile other speakers will be newer voices to the UK family history scene.
The subjects to be covered include:
- dating old photographs
- sleuthing clues for smuggling and shipwrecks
- understanding shellshock
- considering ethical dilemmas in genealogy
- publishing your family history online
- working with manorial records
- how to do a house history
- ways for tracing ancestors in the early 20th century
- …and so much more.
The topics we have lined up have been specially chosen for both serious education and serious enjoyment!

The future of family history
Dr Nick Barratt (President of the Federation of Family History Societies, author and original consultant on the TV series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’)
Dr Bruce Durie (international genealogist and author)
Daniel Horowitz (lead genealogist of My Heritage)
…will be pitting their considerable wits and debating the future of genealogy.
Writing about your family history:
Diane Lindsay (Family Tree favourite and long-time family historian who ‘will teach anything to anyone who’ll listen’)
Gill Blanchard (author of Writing your Family History, writing tutor and researcher)
Marian Burk Wood (author of Planning a Future for your Family’s Past)
…will be discussing solutions to answer that most challenging of questions ‘How to write up your family history’.
More than 60 family history talks will be covered by over 50 speakers

Getting together all that’s needed for a brand new show at Alexandra Palace London is no mean feat, and it certainly wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of genealogy experts Sharon Hintze (lecture organiser for Family Tree Live 2019, the SoG, MyHeritage and FFHS theatres) and Debbie Kennett (lecture & workshop organiser for the FamilyTreeDNA Hub).
Thank you of course too, to everyone who submitted a paper. Sadly we weren’t able to time-table all the topics but we were bowled over by the enthusiasm and expertise that was so clearly evident.

The workshop programme at Family Tree Live will give visitors to the show the opportunity to take their seat at one of the workshop tables, gaining hands-on family history experience, and learning with a dedicated workshop tutor who is both knowledgeable and passionate about the subject.
With a maximum of 10 people per workshop this will provide a cosy learning environment, discovering more about the family history documents and essential skills needed for tracing your roots.
The workshop topics will range from those suitable for people at the absolute start of their family history journey, through to subjects to stretch your research skills too.
