Durham Light Infantry archive talk, 25 April 2019

The Durham Light Infantry record collection will be the centrepiece of a talk at Durham County Record Office next week, showing researchers what records are held and how to use them.

The collection was transferred to the record office in 1998 and is one of the most popular collections, including:

• photos
• diaries
• letters 
• personal stories of individual soldiers

The event comprises an hour-long talk followed by the chance to carry out research in the collection, with assistance from an archivist. 

Education and outreach archivist Dawn Layland told Consett Magazine: “Since it was transferred to us in 1998, the DLI archive has become one of the Record Office’s most searched collections.”

“It is an amazing collection, containing both official records and personal documents of soldiers, including photos, diaries and letters.”
