Question: According to the entry in the General Register Office’s death index, how old was Mary Ann, when she died in 1888?
Answer: The entry reads as follows:
FRY, MARY ANN 71
GRO Reference: 1888 M Quarter in BEDMINSTER Volume 05C Page 545
Intermediate
Question: At the time of the 1871 census, Mary Ann Fry was living in College Street, Bristol with two of her daughters. What was her occupation?
Answer: Mary Ann was working as a Charwoman.
Advanced
Question: Can you find out what happened to Thomas, Mary Ann’s son with William Burcher? When and where did he marry and what was his wife’s name? Where was he living at the time of the 1861 census? When and where was he buried?
Answer: Thomas Burcher married Elizabeth Horwood at the parish church of St Paul, Portland Square, Bristol on 8 May 1854. He and Elizabeth were living at 22 Wellington Street, Bedminster in 1861, along with two of their children. Two years later, Thomas died; he was buried in the burial ground of the Ebenezer Methodist Chapel, British Road, Bedminster on 29 June 1863.
