Descendants of signatories of the Declaration of Arbroath, which asserted Scottish sovereignty in 1320, are being sought ahead of its 700th anniversary in 2020

Descendants of signatories of the Declaration of Arbroath, which asserted Scottish sovereignty in 1320, are being sought ahead of its 700th anniversary in 2020.

Genealogists at the University of Strathclyde are researching the lineage of those who are named in or placed their seals on the historic document as part of the Declaration of Arbroath Family History Project, and identified male-line descendants are being invited to take DNA tests to confirm their heritage.

Results from the study, which is entering its second stage, will form part of an anniversary exhibition to be held at Arbroath Abbey next year. Find the full story at here and more information about the project here.
