How to research your seafarer ancestors
How to research your seafarer ancestors
Keith Gregson will be speaking on ‘All at sea – researching master mariners, shipbuilders, ship-owners and shipbrokers’ at Family Tree Live
Introducing Keith Gregson’s talk:
In his presentation Keith Gregson will show you how to get a better feeling the lives of ancestors in the merchant marine and maritime life in general. He will explore how the ‘system’ worked as sail moved to steam, covering the Victorian and Edwardian periods. He will explain how sailors and officers linked to those who built the ships, those who owned them and those who filled them with goods.
The talk should be of use and interest to all with ancestors working in any area of a life at sea, from shipbuilding, owners and brokering, to sailing the high seas in the Merchant Navy.
This talk is for you if you wish to learn more about the maritime industry and trades or have ancestors who worked in these roles.
Suitable for many levels of family history experience.
