New CEO welcomed to the Society of Genealogists

From 1 July 2024 Philip Spedding will take up the role of CEO at the Society of Genealogists. 

Philip Spedding has spent most of his professional life working in the creative and cultural sectors, and will come from the Royal Albert Hall, previous positions including Director of Development at The London Library and Executive Director at Arts and Business.

He has also been involved in external development plans at organisations as diverse as Tate, The British Library and The Charities Aid Foundation. Philip holds a Bachelor of Commerce (specialising in Finance) from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

Philip said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Society of Genealogists, especially at such an exciting time in a splendid new home."

The Society has been at its new premises (Unit 2, 40 Wharf Rd, London N1 7GS) since December 2023, during which time Natalie Pithers and Rebecca Gregory served as Interim Co-CEOs.

Philip has a personal understanding of the value of family history and he is looking forward to working with his future colleagues, volunteers and members.
