The US National Archives has announced the launch of a new catalog on 21 November, making millions of US records more easily accessible.
The legacy Catalog will remain available until March 2023, after which time users will be migrated to the new catalog. The US National Archives explain that the new Catalog focuses on scalability and in the next few years, will grow to 500 million digitized pages with new back end enhancements in place to improve the existing search experience.
Other benefits include:
- a more user-friendly display of archival descriptions
- a more mobile-friendly user experience
- faster searching
In the next few months, archive staff will be able to upload new records daily rather than weekly.
